Meet Miss Jennifer
My greatest joy as a teacher is watching as students and parents grow in confidence as they learn that they really can sing and be musical!" |
Mom & MusicianJennifer McCormick, owner and teacher, has been joyfully bringing music to children, adults, and families for over 17 years as a Music Director, private voice and piano teacher, and class teacher.
When her children were born, Jennifer shifted from being a full time teacher and musician to being a full time Mommy. Her kids have never ceased to teach her--how to embrace joy, how to be fully present, and how to play. As her children begin their own full time school journey, Jennifer realized she could continue to bring joy and music to children through teaching early childhood and group piano classes. Her children's favorite animals are cats and orcas, and thus Kitty-Orca Music & Piano was born. Trained as a singer, Jennifer earned her Master of Music in Vocal Performance (opera) from North Park University in 2012, and her BA in Music Theatre at Carthage College in 2007. Jennifer has taught privately in her own studio and at the Music Institute of Chicago since 2007, where she has also taught early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school classes with the Music Theatre department. As a Music Director, Jennifer works with singers of all ages, and has been MD and/or conductor for many shows, including The Sound of Music, Shrek, Willy Wonka Jr, Seussical the Musical, Matilda Jr, and Cats. Jennifer’s greatest joy as a teacher is watching as students and parents grow in confidence as they learn that they really can sing and be musical! |
After years of teaching, I absolutely believe that anyone can sing and be musical, no matter their apparent talent or background. Even you, the one whose 4th grade music teacher told them to "just mouth the words." You are musical, and you can give voice to your sorrows and joys. |
